While Jacksonville struggles with rising crime and dangerously slow JSO response times, Mayor Donna Deegan’s administration wasted $10 million on a homebuyer program that offered just $100 per household—a move with little real impact on residents’ lives.
With this money, Jacksonville could have hired approximately 153 new police officers, based on the starting salary of $65,208 for JSO recruits. These additional officers could have significantly improved public safety, reduced response times, and helped tackle the growing crime problem in our city.
Instead, taxpayer dollars were funneled into an ineffective program while critical needs like crime prevention, law enforcement staffing, and public safety go unmet. Jacksonville deserves better leadership that prioritizes smart, impactful investments to protect its residents and address urgent concerns.
As of November 16, 2024, Jacksonville, Florida, has reported the following crime statistics:
Homicides:
• Murders: 53 incidents, with 28 cases cleared, resulting in a 52.83% clearance rate.
• Manslaughters: 3 incidents, with 2 cases cleared, yielding a 66.67% clearance rate.
• Justifiable Homicides: 7 incidents, all cleared, achieving a 100% clearance rate.
• Total Homicides: 63 incidents, with 37 cases cleared, leading to an overall clearance rate of 58.73%.
• Pending Classification: 4 incidents awaiting classification.
Overall Crime Rate:
• Jacksonville’s crime rate is 64 per 1,000 residents, placing it among the highest in the nation. Residents face a 1 in 16 chance of becoming a victim of violent or property crime.
Violent Crime:
• The violent crime rate is 12.43 per 1,000 residents, significantly higher than the national median of 4.
Property Crime:
• The property crime rate stands at 51.56 per 1,000 residents, compared to the national median of 20.
Jacksonville is getting trashier—where are our tax dollars going? Instead of addressing real issues, our money is being funneled into a losing football team and wasted on costly projects. Let’s hold leadership accountable and demand change! #DeeganMustGoJax #RecallDeegan #SaveJacksonville

Jacksonville is a city full of promise, but under Mayor Donna Deegan’s leadership, many residents are questioning whether their city is safer and their tax dollars are being managed responsibly. With violent crime persisting and concerns about misallocated funds, it’s worth examining whether Jacksonville is on the right track.
Crime Rates Remain a Major Concern
Despite assurances from city leaders, crime continues to plague Jacksonville. In 2023, the city reported 158 homicides, and violent crime rates remain significantly higher than the national average. Residents face a 1 in 16 chance of becoming a victim of violent or property crime, according to recent statistics.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office struggles with staffing shortages, leading to longer response times in emergencies. Property crime is also a persistent issue, with rates far exceeding the national median. These figures underscore the need for stronger public safety initiatives and better resource allocation to protect residents.
$10 Million Wasted on Ineffective Programs
One of the most glaring examples of mismanagement under Mayor Deegan’s administration is the $10 million spent on a homebuyer program that provided only $100 per household. Critics argue that this program offered little benefit to residents and diverted funds from pressing needs such as public safety, homelessness, and education.
To put this in perspective, that $10 million could have been used to hire approximately 153 new police officers, significantly improving JSO staffing and reducing response times. Instead, taxpayer dollars were funneled into an ineffective program while critical needs remain unmet.
More Questions About Fiscal Responsibility
In addition to the $10 million misstep, other controversies have further eroded confidence in the administration.
One notable example is a no-bid contract awarded to Langton Consulting, which included payments to a former campaign adviser. This raised questions about transparency and accountability.
Additionally, scrutiny emerged over the mayor’s international travel expenses, including a $2,978 taxpayer-funded hotel stay in London for a Jaguars game. Critics argue that such expenses are tone-deaf when pressing issues like public safety, school shortages, and homelessness demand immediate attention.
What Jacksonville Needs
Jacksonville’s residents deserve leadership that prioritizes safety, transparency, and fiscal responsibility. Crime reduction, community investment, and accountability must take precedence over wasteful spending and questionable priorities.
If these issues continue unaddressed, Jacksonville risks further eroding public trust and missing critical opportunities for growth and safety. The time for change is now—because the people of Jacksonville deserve better.
